In the 3rd century AD, during a time of turmoil in the Roman Empire, wealthy families in the Reusstal region, including those in Lunnern, hid their valuable family treasures to protect them from invading Alemannic tribes. These hidden treasures, known as 'Hortfunde', were often not found again until much later, sometimes being melted down before their historical significance was understood.
