On December 22, 1940, a British air raid targeted the Wipkinger Viadukt in Zurich's Industriequartier, killing one person and damaging the viaduct. The damaged section was later repaired, and the newer stones can still be seen today. The original target of the raid was the German city of Mannheim, but bad weather led the British pilots to choose Zurich as an alternative target.
