A massive earthquake in 1356 triggered a huge fire that destroyed much of the city, leading to the creation of building codes to prevent such disasters in the future. The city council promoted the use of tile roofs instead of wooden shingles to reduce the risk of fires. This decision ultimately led to the expansion of the Ziegelei, a tile factory, at the Ziegelhof site.
