The Indienneriedruckerei, a textile printing factory, was built in 1785 by Johannes de Melchior Steiner on the site of the current Stadttheater, and was later owned by Jakob Sulzer, who also owned the Haus zum Adler. The factory's last building, constructed in 1774, was demolished after 201 years to make way for the Stadttheater. This marked the end of an era for Winterthur's industrial past.
