The Baugenossenschaft Union (BGU) was founded in 1909 by the union of Swiss postal, tram, and railway employees to address the severe housing shortage in Winterthur. The first houses were built in 1912/13, and the project was a pioneer work in cooperative housing. Today, the BGU still offers affordable housing to its members.
