A devastating flood occurred in Locarno on August 7, 1939, causing enormous damage to crops, trees, and buildings. The water level of the lake rose by 1.75 meters in 24 hours, flooding the Isolino and a large part of the pier. The cellars were flooded, and firefighters had to be called in.
