The Räuberweg, a path in the Hönggerberg forest, is named after two real-life robbers, Ernst Deubelbeiss and Kurt Schürmann, who hid stolen goods, including 15 machine guns and 9600 rounds of ammunition, in a buried barrel nearby in 1951. The duo's crime spree ended with a massive shootout with police in 1952, and they were eventually sentenced to life in prison. Deubelbeiss was released in 1978 and lived under an assumed name until his death in 2005.
