The Erlacherhof, a grand town mansion, was built between 1745 and 1752 for the Bernese patrician Hieronymus von Erlach, but he didn't live to see its completion. His son, Albrecht Friedrich von Erlach, finished the project and even added a touching tribute to his father - the crowned monogram 'HvE' on the pediments of the east and west wing courtyard façades.
