The Ebel watch company, founded in 1911, was one of the nine watch firms in La Chaux-de-Fonds owned by Jewish families between 1890 and 1914. The company's founders, Eugène Blum and his wife Alice, had to overcome societal restrictions, as evident from a 1914 prize certificate issued to 'Messieurs Blum & Cie, Fabrique Ebel La Chaux-de-Fonds', which ignored Alice's contribution.
